For the last 6 years, Negative Space has existed as a home for hundreds of artists, musicians, and spectators. We built our foundation on the mission to be a platform for artists and a gathering place for the community. The combination has created an atmosphere unlike any other: a hidden oasis of art and people.
Our Team works diligently to empower the unique talent of everyone that comes through our doors, whether that be a professional artist, an aspiring musician, or even just a community patron. We pride ourselves on operating commission-free, allowing any profit made from an artists' work to go right back into their pocket. Our stage continuously elevates local, national, and international talent during our free and open-to-the-public monthly Jam Nights, Sketch Nights, and Open Mic Nights, as well as our vibrant concert series and theatric events.
We consider Negative Space to be a true non-profit host for communal exchange. Not only does our «hidden oasis» inspire participants and audiences alike, but we also learn from what the community brings to us. Our friendly neighbors have opened our eyes to countless community engagements, fellow non-profits, and exciting opportunities to grow and invest in the Cleveland art community.
Now, Negative Space stands at the gates of a new and exciting horizon. Thanks to the support of our volunteers and community grants and donations, we have moved next door to a more than 4,000 square foot warehouse capable of supporting a greater variety of talent, yearning to be filled with art, music, performances, and love. We are excited to invite everyone to our Grand Opening and fundraiser on Saturday, August 26th, from 7:00p — 11:30p.
The new Negative Space features two permanent studios, which will serve as the creative homes for Bob Perkoski (Perkoski Photography) and a recording studio run by Isaiah Jackson (Positive Vibes). We will continue our popular Studio 2, a rotating artist residency, and expand upon that success by adding a fourth Studio. The Space also will include two stages, a cafe, and a wet bar.
Opening Night will be a celebration for our long-time supporters and greeting place for new friends. Entertainment will include performances by Dan Socha, C-Level, M. Moddy, and Glowing Moses. On debut will be the featured work of Kubra Abbas, Cara Romano, Gadi Zamir, Maxwell Miller, Bob McNulty, and Ari Michael Warner, as well as a film by Donn R. Nottage, «Grounds for Elimination.»
There will be a cash bar, hors d'oeuvres, light refreshments, and a guaranteed evening full of Negative Space spirit.
We ask you to join and support us in the celebration of our beginning, our present and our musical, colorful, and inspiring future on August 26th, from 7:00p — 11:30p, at 3820 Superior Ave., Cleveland, OH 44114. Your support, no matter how small, allows us to operate as the commission-free, artistic-focused, community space we are proud to be.
