SPACES opens its Fall season with newly commissioned work by José Carlos Teixeira (Madison, WI) and UR:eAD Press (Portland, OR & NYC). The opening reception is FREE + open to the public, and the artists will be in attendance.
On Exile, by José Carlos Teixeira, is a video-essay that investigates the refugee experience, expanding on issues of migration, displacement, and otherness. URe:AD Press (United Re:Public of the African Diaspora) is a print and media based collective by artists Sharita Towne & Shani Peters; through their SWAP residency, they are organizing a video exchange program that showcases messages of Afro-Diasporic love, unity, and empowerment. In The Vault, SPACES' very own Marilyn Ladd-Simmons has organized a series of video works by Cameron Granger (Columbus, OH), Ricardo Iamuuri Robinson (Pittsburgh, PA), and Daniel Rothman (Venice, CA), that provoke questions of entitlement and erasure as they relate to racially motivated violence, identity, and gentrification.
Join us for the after party, at a nearby location TBA.
