The Akron Bicycle Club invites all area cyclists and particularly Summit, Medina and Portage County cyclists to this solemn ride that commemorates cyclists who have been injured or killed in cycling collisions. This ride is part of a national observance held each year on the third Wednesday in May.
ABC has made the following arrangements for this year’s local ride on Wednesday, May 16. It will start from the Botzum Parking Lot, 2928 Riverview Rd., south of West Bath Road. Participants are asked to arrive at 6:30 p.m. to form the line for the ride. Cyclists will ride three abreast in silence. The route is approximately 7 miles. We will ride at no more than 12 miles per hour; riders who have difficulty with that speed are asked to assemble toward the back of the peloton; riders who usually go faster than that speed are asked to observe the solemnity of this memorial ride by not exceeding 12 mph. We hope that you and your regular riding buddies will be there.
There will be brief remarks at approximately 6:45 p.m. With a police escort, the ride will commence at 7 p.m.
