Usher in spring with an immersive class designed to heighten your senses and get your creativity flowing! Haiku Hike begins with a brief introduction of the form with examples. From there, participants will travel throughout Edgewater Park, with relevant examples of haiku given at each stopping point. At the end of the hike, calligraphy pens and hand-made paper 4”x11” will be provided so participants can copy rough drafts of their haikus onto placards they can take home as mementos or gifts.
Ray McNiece is the author of eight books of poems and dramatic monologues. He is also the current Haiku champ of Cleveland. The Orlando Sentinel reporting on Ray’s solo show at the Fringe Festival called him “a modern day… descendant of Woody Guthrie. He has a way with words and a wry sense of humor.” He toured Russia with Yevgeny Yevtushenko and Italy twice with legendary Beat poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti. He has performed at Cleveland Playhouse, Dobama Theatre, Ensemble, and the Cleveland Public Theatre where he premiered his newest solo theater work, The Lives of A Poet, in 2015.
Haiku Hike takes place Sat. 5/19 from 10a-12p at Edgewater State Park's Beach House, 6500 Memorial Shoreway, Cleve ($20 / 15 for members). Open to writers of all levels.
